Common Act Migration Problems
A connector can move records. It can't decide what's worth keeping.
Duplicates and duplicate rules
Act can store duplicate organizations and contacts, and Salesforce can have existing records too. Very often, standard or custom duplicate rules fire during migration, and sometimes important records are skipped during migration.
Products and deal products
Act's product functionality doesn't map directly to Salesforce's product architecture. Salesforce uses Products, Price Books, Price Book Entries, and Opportunity Products, which can make migrating products and deal line items more complex.
Salesforce validation rules
There are often validation rules configured in Salesforce, particularly in production environments. These rules enforce data quality and standardized data entry by preventing records from being created or updated when required criteria are not met. During a migration, these rules may need to be temporarily disabled or adjusted to allow the migration to complete successfully.
Owners/Users mismatch
Act! users need to be mapped to Salesforce users. This becomes problematic when an Act! user no longer exists or doesn't have an appropriate Salesforce license. Records may need to be reassigned to another Salesforce user.
Complex structure of Act! native backup
You can relatively easily export system contact and company fields from your legacy CRM backup, but it's challenging to grab all custom properties. The reason is that the CRM stores them in separate tables that have to be handled additionally.
Data volumes/API limits
Large-scale migrations can be affected by various Salesforce limitations, including API request and batch limits. As a result, a migration that performs successfully with 10,000 records may behave very differently when scaled to 2 million records, potentially requiring additional planning, optimization, and migration strategies to manage Salesforce limits effectively.
